The present-day situation in AUTH is the following: there are 10 faculties, consisting of 44 departments, 5 independent departments, and branches located in surrounding cities. AUTH is today the largest university in the country, with about 42.000 “active” students. The teaching – research staff consists of 2.300 people, the special educational staff of 195, and the remaining teaching staff of 296.

AUTH in the last three-year-period has collaborated with 1.700 partners for the implementation of 3.500 Research and Technological Development RTD Projects. 1.340 members of the teaching and research staff, 12.000 external co-operators as well as a large number of postgraduate students have participated in these projects. The overall budget of these projects has risen up to 150 million euros.

The School of Psychology offers degrees through to Ph.D. level. Youth studies figures strongly in both teaching and research, with particular interest in personal development, family-school relations, education-work transitions, and generational change and youth cultures. Since the 1980s, the School has won an international reputation for research on gender, education and schooling; it regularly conducts national and European-level funded projects in this field and has run an M.A. in Education for Gender Equality in collaboration with the School of Philosophy and Education from 2003-2010.

The Dept. of Developmental and School Psychology addresses all issues relevant to children and families, both at an academic as well as at a research/application level, with particular interest in personal development, family-school relations, education-work transitions, generational change and childhood and youth cultures. The Departments academic staff is specialized in a variety of teaching and research areas such as counselling, educational and school psychology, child development issues, childhood and youth studies, gender issues and multicultural perspectives in school and counselling psychology.
